June 22- We head south this week to partake of music closely wedded to the sea, in this case the Mediterranean, in Greece. Contemporary Western culture owes a great deal to the ancient Greeks, and the music that has come down from that time is no exception. The lyre that is still played in folk music ensembles derives from two thousand years ago, and the lauto, the uniquely Greek lute, has similar origins. We’ll sample music from the mainland and the many islands that make up modern day Greece. Of course, we’ll travel around the globe as we always do to hear what’s going on in new recordings to close the show. This is a special week on the program because we are ending our fiscal year on the 30th. and will be asking for contributions to keep us in the black- hope you can help!
