On February 28, 1989, the Indigo Girls (Amy Ray & Emily Saliers) released their self-titled major label debut. It went on to be a platinum-selling record, earning Grammy nods for Best Contemporary Folk Album and Best New Artist. They won the former but lost out to Milli Vanilli for Best New Artist (who were later forced to vacate the award).
