Piedmont harmonica player Sonny Terry was born October 24, 1911 in Greensboro, SC. Blinded at age 16, Terry was unable to do the farm work expected of young black men in the area and instead took to playing harmonica professionally with North Carolina blues guitar player, Blind Boy Fuller. When Fuller passed in 1941, Terry linked up with guitarist Brownie McGhee in a partnership that would last decades and bring the pair international acclaim during the ongoing mid-century folk revival.

WUMB will celebrate the life and music of Sonny Terry on Spinnin’ the Blues with Holly Harris, Saturday, October 22 from 6 to 9 PM and again on the Morning Show with Brendan Hogan Monday the 24th from 6 to 10 AM.
