We begin August with two brand-new episodes of Guest Mix, both featuring artists with deep New England ties. Born in Boston, raised in North Carolina, singer-songwriter Livingston Taylor is one of the best at connecting with audiences through song, story, and live performance, so his Guest Mix episode on August 7 will be both a master class on music and a celebration of stand-out moments in music history.

And just a few days after you hear him on Guest Mix, you’ll have a chance to hear him in person at the WUMB Presents concert at City Winery on Thursday, August 12. Yours truly will be emceeing that night, so if you make it, please say hello.

On August 14, we’ll feature Rockport, Mass. Native Paula Cole. Cole’s latest album, American Quilt, captures an artist at the top of her game; she explores country, blues, jazz, and other forms of music. Its ten tracks soar on the strength of her extraordinary singing and arrangements. Her Guest Mix features a host of great vocalists, including Odetta, Dolly Parton, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, and Chet Baker (also a pretty fair trumpet player).

During the last two weeks, we’ll re-air two episodes featuring artists who seemed to really enjoy hanging out and talking about music. I remember laughing a lot during the sessions with Joachim Cooder and Elizabeth Ziman (of Elizabeth and the Catapult), but we also dug into a wide range of interesting musicians. I hope you can tune in. The full schedule for the month is below.
