Arts at the Armory is proud to announce a very special night of music as part of its Spotlight Series: Shawn Colvin and Rodney Crowell, two icons of American songwriting, will share the stage for an intimate concert on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Shawn Colvin first captured national attention with her 1989 debut album Steady On, which earned her a GRAMMY Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. In the decades since, she has released thirteen critically acclaimed albums, won three GRAMMYs, and built a loyal following with her emotionally resonant songwriting and powerful live performances.
Rodney Crowell, a native Texan and revered “songwriter’s songwriter,” brings over 40 years of groundbreaking work to the stage. A two-time GRAMMY Award winner, Crowell has penned countless hits for country and rock legends including Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, the Grateful Dead, and many more. His influence helped shape the sound of Americana music, earning him a reputation as one of the most vital and enduring voices in American roots music.
Willie Nelson just released a dedication album for Crowell’s songs in April, entitled Oh What a Wonderful World. Nelson’s 77th solo studio album highlights popular selections from Crowell’s body of work like “Banks of the Old Bandera,” “Shame on the Moon,” and “What Kind of Love.” Both from Texas, Crowell and Nelson’s music careers intersected many times over.
At Arts at the Armory, Colvin and Crowell will take turns performing songs from their extensive catalogs, offering a rare glimpse into their artistry, craft, and camaraderie. The show will take place at Arts at the Armory (191 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA) on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Doors will open at 7:00 PM, and the music will begin at 8:00 PM with a local opener.
