World Cafe has lots of great Guests this week including Grammy nominated Shemekia Copeland on Thursday. Here’s the complete schedule:

Monday, February 6, 2023 – John Morrison’s Culture Corner

Throughout February John Morrison is helping World Cafe celebrate the music of black artists with a weekly series looking back on the last 50 years of R&B. We start things off on a high note with the ‘70s, a decade John calls one of R&B’s best. Hear some of your favorites like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, plus find out how Philadelphia International Records helped pave the way for disco.

Tuesday, February 7, 2023 – Silversun Pickups

Brian Aubert of Silversun Pickups didn’t plan to work on music as the pandemic lockdown set in, but even the best laid plans take a detour. On the next World Cafe, Aubert and Nikki Moninger talk about the indie rock band’s sixth studio album, Physical Thrills, working with esteemed producer Butch Vig, and why they’re not too cool to record video messages for fans.

Wednesday, February 8, 2023 – Natalia Lafourcade

When Natalia Lafourcade went through a painful breakup, she sought solace in her garden in Veracruz, Mexico. The time she spent there ended up inspiring her latest album, De Todas Las Flores. On the next World Cafe, Lafourcade explains how nature helped her heal and why she loves exploring the musical traditions of Latin America.

Thursday, February 9, 2023 – Encore: Shemekia Copeland

On her latest album, Shemekia Copeland wanted to address the apathy and lack of understanding she saw unfolding in 2020 during the pandemic. On the next World Cafe, Copeland talks about the themes she explores on Done Come Too Far to help spark conversations, plus you’ll hear one of the best blues vocalists of her generation perform live.

Friday, February 10, 2023 – “Weird Al” Yankovic

Madonna…Queen…Don McLean. “Weird Al” Yankovic has parodied all of those artists and countless others during his nearly five-decade long career. That career – a fictionalized version of it – is explored in the recent film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Weird Al joins host Raina Douris to talk about his life, his career, his songwriting process, and how the film parodies all of those things, on the next World Cafe.

You can hear World Cafe each Weeknight starting at 10.
