Join WUMB as we celebrate the band Lula Wiles as the Artists of the Day on Tuesday, August 30.

Since the band’s inception in 2014, they have toured internationally, winning fans at the Newport Folk Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festival, garnering acclaim from NPR Music and two Boston Music Awards nominations, and sharing stages with the likes of Aoife O’Donovan, the Wood Brothers, and Tim O’Brien. In 2016, they self-released Lula Wiles, a twang-tinged collection of originals. Soon after, their then-unreleased second album caught the attention of the legendary Smithsonian Folkways Recordings label. What Will We Do was released in 2019, followed in 2021 by Shame and Sedition.

Lately the members of the group have pursued individual projects. Eleanor Buckland released her first solo record in the fall of 2021, Mali Obomsawin performs with jazz and string bands while focusing on community activism, and Isa Burke was a recent instructor at one of WUMB’s acoustic music camps for adults.

Hear the Artist of the Day sets in the 9 AM, noon, 3 PM, and 7 PM hours each weekday on WUMB.
