WUMB Public Radio Network Profile
In 1982, WUMB 91.9FM was licensed to the University of Massachusetts as a non-commercial radio station, serving the Greater Boston metropolitan area 24 hours per d y, 365 days a year. Since that time, WUMB has gradually expanded its reach and coverage.
Today, WUMB 91.9FM (Boston) is the flagship of The WUMB Public Radio Network; simulcasting on WBPR 91.9FM (Worcester), WFPB 91.9FM (Falmouth), WNEF 91.7FM (Newburyport) and WFPB 1170AM (Orleans). The WUMB Public Radio Network reaches over 220 cities and towns in Massachusetts as well as parts of New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
WUMB's mission is to provide entertainment, cultural, informational and educational programming that is not available to the public from other radio sources. In meeting this mission, WUMB presents a broad range of Folk Music, Roots and World Music and other specialized social and cultural programming. Integral parts of the broadcast schedule include daily live interviews with local and national musicians and community leaders, syndicated programming from Public Radio International, as well as an abundance of public affairs and public service programming.
Funding for the WUMB Public Radio Network is supplied by the University of Massachusetts, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and through the commitment and generosity of our listeners and Corporate Partners.
WUMB is affiliated with the Associated Press, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Massachusetts Broadcasters Association, Massachusetts Cultural Council, National Association of Broadcasters, Public Radio International, and Achievement in Radio Board of Governors.
