Music Director/Senior Producer (Job Number 745c) - Full Time with benefits

Description: The Music Director is responsible for developing and implementing the musical sound and target audience appeal of WUMB across the schedule, and the integration of both on the air. The Music Director serves as the main contact for WUMB with record companies, music promoters and musicians regarding music service and performer visits for interview shows as well as for special events such as member concerts and the Boston Folk Festival. Creates music news information for on-air, new media features, and station publications. Responsibilities include hosting or substituting on-air for music shows. Also, s/he will: lead, in consultation with the Program Director, the research and selection of music for WUMB; assist the Director of Programming in the review and selection of music-related programs to maintain and grow WUMB's audience; acquire, review, select and program music for designated programs and special station offerings; stay abreast of musical trends relevant to WUMB’s format; manage music software in the selection and scheduling of songs; maintain the music library; establish and maintain harmonious relationships with music companies, performers and producers; maintain presence for WUMB in the music industry, including reporting playlists to radio trade magazines, newspapers and record company representatives, and communicating with record representatives about artists relevant to the format; recruit artists for live or pre-recorded guest appearances; schedule musicians to perform at WUMB produced concerts; maintain related musician hospitality; creates music news information for on-air and new media features as well as station publications; manages select pages on WUMB's web site; participate enthusiastically at station-sponsored fundraisers and events, as well as at other events, meetings and/or professional organizations; works with students and volunteers, provides assistance and training in the field; and answers appropriate and relevant listener inquiries about music programming.

Qualifications: Must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the full spectrum of Folk, AAA and Americana music and artists. Excellent judgement in evaluating performances of folk music. Knowledge of related music programming produced by other radio stations. Experience with MusicMaster Music Scheduling Software or equivalent required. Eight to ten years experience in announcing and programming music, preferably in public radio, with an appropriate pleasant and conversational "on-air" delivery and style. Demonstrated ability to conduct interviews and/or prepare reports for broadcast. Ability to work with and adapt to new media. Highly developed interpersonal communication and language arts skills. Minimum two years audio production experience with digital editing skills, demonstrated ability to effectively apply independent and creative judgement to editing short format productions. Familiarity with automation software such as Control-Ready preferred. Working knowledge of FCC regulations and standards as they pertain to terrestrial broadcasting, internet webcasting, and multi channels. Some weekend and evening work required during fundraisers and special events.

Salary: Hiring Range: $50,787 to $59,494. University Professional Staff. Grade level 31. State Funded. Benefited.

Weekday, Fill-in Announcer(s)

Description:WUMB is seeking one or more weekday fill-in announcers. Minimum one year experience as an on-air host/music announcer, preferably in public radio with an appropriate pleasant and conversational "on-air" delivery and style. Knowledge of current singer/songwriters and the roots of contemporary popular music forms is important, but a genuine appreciation of the music is essential. Must be proficient with broadcast studio equipment.

Salary: $12-$20/hour, depending on experience. Non-Benefited.

Director of Individual Giving & Membership (Job Number 850e) - Full Time with benefits

Description: The Individual Giving/Membership Director for WUMB Radio will manage the operations of the individual giving/membership office to retain existing donors and to expand the donor base through the creation of individual, mid-level and major giving programs that can help shape the radio station’s future. S/he will: achieve revenue goals through management and production of integrated fundraising campaigns to include on-air, direct mail and new technologies; manage computerized database to include daily processing of donor gifts, data entry and data changes; oversee staff and volunteers in the production of several on-air fundraising campaigns; oversee matching gift form processing; develop and implement a plan to maintain and acquire new WUMB Member Card incentives; insure that monthly and periodic mailings are sent in a timely fashion; provide periodic and special donor and related reports; create and distribute accurate annual tax certification letters to donors; assist in the creation of development-related bid specifications and review selection processes; correspond with WUMB donors in a timely fashion; assist the general manager in development initiatives; coordinate fund drives; and other related duties.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years experience with individual giving/membership and gift processing responsibilities in a public broadcasting or non-profit organization exceeding 5,000 contributors. Sophisticated understanding of the tools of fundraising, including thorough working knowledge of complex record keeping, word processing an relational database systems essential; previous experience with IBM DOS and Windows spreadsheet and word processing software. Knowledge of, or experience with new technologies such as contact management and donor relations software systems. A self manager with a focus on high quality and accuracy in a busy environment, who can pursue objectives in an organized manner, solve problems, prioritize activities and maintain a level of activity without direct supervision. Excellent communications and planning skills, the ability to work as part of a team and motivate others is necessary. Minimum 1 year supervisory experience, including volunteers. Working knowledge of special event management. Flexible schedule as needed during fundraisers and special events. Ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of people within and outside the university, including an ability to interact harmoniously with current and perspective donors in person, by phone and by email, and to resolve problems in an efficient and timely fashion. Must posses valid Class D Drivers license. Prefer someone with knowledge of public radio and/or folk music. Some weekend and evening work required during fundraisers and special events.
